I'll Just request it 20 times a day.

I am so ridiculously in love with this song. Why does the radio not understand my need to hear it more often than they are willing to play it?

On a completely different note, I feel the need to blog about the colour red, but it would require me to have a camera, and I really have no idea where mine is at the moment.  But I just realized that my phone has a camera, therefore, this blog will happen tomorrow (or, later today, I suppose, since it is past midnight). At the moment, I really should be sleeping.

yay for moving. . .

My mom and I are moving into my grandma's house at the end of the month.  This really wouldn't be a problem if it was just my grandma, but my moms two sisters, and three of my cousins (10, 16 and 23) also happen to live there, so the house is quite full already.  It's a big house, but several of the rooms are filled with all the junk my grandpa hoarded, and the whole house is pretty messy, so there really isn't much space.  I'm not excited.  On a positive note though, at least they don't have the spider problem there, that I have at my current apartment.  I'm really tired of spiders crawling on me while I'm attempting to sleep.

day 30 - your favourite song at this time last year

This is an easy one, seeing as it is the same as my current favourite song. "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes has been my favourite song for years now.

Maybe I should find a new favourite song. It could be this one.

day 29 - a song from your childhood

I could go with "blue skies" by Willie Nelson.

OR I could go with Polkamon. I love that song. someone needs to make an actual video for it.

day 27 - a song that you wish you could play

There are a lot of songs that I'd like to be able to play, but sitting around wishing wont make me any better.  I really need to get my guitar out and practice once in a while.

This is one of the songs that I'd like to be able to play.  It seems pretty simple, so I know that if I worked at it at all, I could learn this song without too much issue.

day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument

I can kind of play a lot of songs on guitar, but I'm really not very good at any of them.  I'm probably best at this one, because I practiced it so much for guitar class.  I like the song, but the video cracks me up.

day 25 - a song that makes you laugh

I was very confused the first time I saw this video.  The visuals are strange, and the lyrics make little sense, but I love it.  It's fun, and it's not trying to be anything other than fun. Plus, stuff that glows in the dark is always awesome! ^_^

day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral

Well, since I'll likely be dead at my funeral, makes no difference to me what music is played, but, This seems like good funeral music to me. I love this entire album.

day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding

I'm going to be lame with this one and say "I have no idea".  I honestly doubt that I will ever get married, and I have never put any thought into what music would be played at my wedding. If I think of something later, then I'll update this, but for now, here, have some Social Distortion.

day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad

I always listen to sad music when I'm sad.  I should listen to cheerful music, so that it makes me happy.  But I don't make sense.

Sunday, July 3, 2011

day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy

I listen to this song when I am happy.  I listen to this song when I want to be happy.  I listen to this song when I feel like destroying the entire planet, and it makes me want to dance instead.  I like this song.

day 19 - a song from your favorite album

I'm pretty sure that I could do all 30 days of this thing using The White Stripes, but I'm not going to.  I could also do the whole thing using Tom Waits.  I'm really quite surprised that I didn't think to use him for several of the days.

Rain Dogs is my favourite Tom Waits album.

I really like this song though.  He is amazing live.

day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio

I didn't walk a thousand miles, but I'm so out of shape that 12 miles felt like a thousand.  I wont be doing that again any time soon.  I sometimes hear this song on the radio, but not as often as I'd like to.

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio

I tried to post this yesterday but Blogger didn't want to work, so, it's late, but oh well.

I was listening to X96 and Adele - Rolling In The Deep came on. I changed the station, but that station was also playing it, so I changed the station again, and the 3rd station was also playing it. I finally found a station that was not playing Rolling In The Deep, but when the song they were playing ended, once again Adele was blasting from my radio. I don't really dislike the song, but I can't seem to get away from it.

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate

Jr High was weird. . .

I wouldn't say that I really hate this song, but I certainly wouldn't chose to listen to it.

Monday, June 27, 2011

day 15 - a song that describes you

I just want to say that music videos are weird. . .

day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love

This one is a bit late, due to me falling asleep super early.

I like pretty much everything, and I think pretty much everyone knows what I like, so I don't know if anyone would really be surprised by anything that I like. Maybe. I dunno, I'm tired, lol. I like Bobby Darin. . .

Saturday, June 25, 2011

day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure

Haha, guilty pleasures. . . I have a lot of those.

Pft, what are you talking about? Of course I don't like Cher. *cough*

Friday, June 24, 2011

day 12 - a song from a band you hate

I don't like Metallica.  I don't know that I really hate them, but I don't think that I really hate anything or anyone, but I really, really, really dislike Metallica. They make my head explode in the most unpleasant of ways.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

day 11 - a song from your favorite band

I'm pretty sure that my favourite band is The White Stripes, and I already posted a song from them, as my favourite song, but I really can't think of any other band that I love quite as much as I love them. The hard part now, is choosing which of there songs to use this time.  I think that I'll go with "Jolene". It's a cover, originally by Dolly Parton.  I don't often like covers, but Jack White did an amazing job with this song.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep

Breathe by Alexi Murdoch makes me super sleepy, ironically, it also makes me forget to breathe.  It's a great song though.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

day 09 - a song that you can dance to

I can't dance, but I can pretend! Particularly when listening to Dancing With My Self by Billy Idol. It only makes sense to dance to a song about dancing, right? Except that, for some reason, it seems that I only ever listen to that song while cooking. One of these days I'll be dancing while cooking and end up with an egg on my face or something. . .

Monday, June 20, 2011

day 08 - a song that you know all the words to

Puttin' on the Ritz is going to be stuck in my head now for months.

I think that Fred Astaire Did it best.

I find this video to be quite creepy. . .

Sunday, June 19, 2011

day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event

There are several songs that remind me of various events, including "jump into the fire" by Harry Nilsson,  "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz, "little lion man" by Mumford & Sons, "Waiting for the end" by Linkin Park,  pretty much anything by Sousa, and the Pokemon Theme Song, but I really don't feel like diving into any of those events in a public place, so, instead I will just leave you with the intro to original Pokemon.

Goggles! part 3 (finally)

Took me a while, but I finally got these goggles done.

I might change the strap later, but I'm not sure.  I do kind of like it the way it is, with the safety pins.

But I got the chips in the paint fixed, and the tiny gears glued on and also attached a metal ring to the left side.  I'm considering adding some detailing with different coloured paint, but that would be a hassle, and I might be lazy, so who knows whether or not that will actually happen.

Anyway, they are done for now, and I am fairly happy with them the way they are.  Now I can think of some other project to work on! I do have a lot of ideas, but they tend to be quite expensive ideas, so I either need to get a job, or find something cheaper to do :D

Saturday, June 18, 2011

day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere

I always end up with "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles lodged firmly in my brain whenever I go to Target.  I can only assume that this is because they used the song in a Target ad a while back, and so apparently I have made a permanent association between the two.

Friday, June 17, 2011

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone

The song "Inside Out" by Eve 6 always reminds me of a good friend from Jr. High.  She would listen to it on repeat while working on her art.  She's an interesting person and an amazing artist.  She was amazing even back in Jr High, but she's only gotten better. You can see some of her work here.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

day 04 - a song that makes you sad

I'm not a huge fan of the Goo Goo Dolls (though I don't really dislike them), but I do like the song "Iris". I've liked it since I first heard it in Jr. High, but it has always made me feel sad, which I assume is the point of the song.  Watching the video though, has made me want a room full of telescopes, which kind of makes me insanely happy. (I'm really bad at this whole writing about songs thing. . . )

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

day 03 - a song that makes you happy

I don't often listen to particularly upbeat music, so it was a bit of a challenge to come up with something, other than the white stripes, that makes me happy, but I decided on "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz.  I don't really know what to say about this song, other than it is crazy happy and almost always cheers me up when I'm feeling down.

day 02 - your least favourite song

I really like the song "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, and I love the cover by Jeff Buckley, but I really don't like the cover by Rufus Wainwright. Overall, I suppose he does an okay job, but it feels to me like the song is just another pop song, only made to make money.  His piano and vocals are both good, though he's nasal and breathy, and the song is lacking in any depth or emotion.  Cohen and Buckley both put so much into the song, and it is amazing, but Wainwright doesn't seem to feel it at all. It's possible that he just isn't as good of an artist as Cohen or Buckley, I haven't heard any of his other work, so I can't really say, but I think it's sad that he managed to take so much of the beauty out of "Hallelujah"

This isn't the worst performance, but it certainly isn't the best either. . .

Here's Jeff Buckley for comparison.

Day 01 - Your Favourite Song

It's difficult to pick just one favourite song, because I like so many, and what I like the most can change quite drastically based on my mood.  I decided for this one, to go with the song that, according to iTunes, I listen to the most.  On my laptop, that would be "Hotel Yorba" by the White Stripes, but on my desktop, "Seven Nation Army" also by the White Stripes, easily is the most played.  And though I love a lot of different music, and what I listen to changes based on mood, "Seven Nation Army" has topped my favourites list for quite a while now.

"Seven Nation Army" was the first song that I heard by the White Stripes, and though I love all of their songs (really, I've never heard a song from The White Stripes that I didn't love), "Seven Nation Army", in my opinion, is easily their best.  I love the simplicity of the guitar (bass?) and drums, and the emotion that Jack White puts into the lyrics.

30 Day Song Challenge

So, I decided to do the "30 Day Song Challenge" but instead of just posting a link to the video for each song on facebook, I decided to write a bit about each song and why I chose them.  I don't really know why I'm doing this, but I guess I don't really need a reason.  I'm going to try to actually think about the songs I chose, rather than just going with the first one that comes to mind, otherwise there would likely be a lot of repeats and I want to try to use a different song for every day.

Tiny writers and super glue! Perhaps I need more sleep.

I hate it when the tiny little writer that lives in the back of my head wakes up in the middle of the night and yells at me to put these words on paper, quickly before I lose them.  I wouldn't mind so much, if this tiny little writer would actually complete something once in a while.  He's really good at starts, but not so good at middles and ends.  Though this here, it feels more like a middle.  Maybe towards the end.  Maybe that will make coming up with a beginning more easy? Likely not.  I good at making a start, even if that start is actually the end, but I have no follow through.

On an entirely different subject, I bought super glue.  I really want to get these goggles finished. I will get right on that.  After sleep. Good Night! =D

Goggles! part 2

I've got them put back together now.

This picture is really blurry, but some of these tiny gears will end up attached to the goggles.

First, however, I must obtain more of this nifty substance, as I discovered today that this bottle is quite empty.
I also need to do something about this tiny little problem, which did not occur until after I had them put back together.  It's not big, but it feels huge.  I'll have to attempt to find a small bottle of a similarly coloured paint to cover it up.

I haven't done much to them so far, but I've been meaning to do this for a while, so I'm pretty excited that I've finally gotten started.  Now I just need to find a way to make them different than the ones that I did for my friend.  :)

Look! A story!

Well, a bit of one at least. I started this last night.  I wasn't planning on it going for long but it ended up changing directions and now there is no end in sight. Perhaps I'll actually finish this one.  Not likely, but it is summer so I don't have much else to work on, and it is already longer than anything else I've written.  It would be cool if I could complete something.  Anyway, here's a bit of what I've got so far.
---

It took him longer than it should have to realize that the strange grumbling sound was coming from his own stomach. It was nearly three PM and he had yet to eat, but he couldn't seem to pry himself from the soft grass and the warm sun. It was a beautiful day and he wanted nothing but to let the soft breeze carry him away with the clouds. He lay there watching the images drift across the sky high above him. A squirrel running from a dinosaur, a school of fish swimming through the endless blue sea, an airship that he could only assume was carrying a crew of intrepid sky pirates. He would have gladly joined them on their adventures, had they been made of something more stable than cloud.

Stability. . .

He could no longer ignore the complaints of his stomach. It was threatening to turn itself inside out if not fed soon so he finally forced himself to go in search of something at least pretending to be edible. He was disappointed however to discover that both the fridge and the freezer were barren. He opened the pantry, hoping for something, anything, but was greeted by an overwhelming emptiness. Well then, now what? He thought. He stood in the kitchen staring at the floor, wondering where he might obtain food, or perhaps the money to purchase food. He thrust his hands into his pockets, hoping that perhaps some coins had magically appeared but there was nothing. He dug in the sofa cushions and searched every corner of the run down apartment but found nothing save a few pennies and what may have at one time been a peanut butter sandwich. He was quite hungry, and strongly considered it, but decided that it's place was in the trash bin, not his stomach.

Goggles!

I've decided to use this blog to show off some of the steampunk-ish things that I'm working on.  Being short on money, I can't do much, and nothing that I do is anything special, but it's something.

A few months ago I modded some goggles for a friend, and I've decided to make some for myself too.  They are simple plastic welding goggles, and I quite like them the way they come, but I thought it would be cool to dress them up a bit.

This is what I started with.  They are nothing special, but they are pretty nifty. I obtained them from this site. They are really inexpensive compared to other goggles and because of their simple design and the fact that they can be taken apart, they are fairly easy to mod.

I used Krylon Fusion for plastic Hammered Finish paint. I was lazy and didn't exactly follow the instructions on the can, but it seems to work okay anyway.

And this is what I've got so far.  The colour doesn't really show very well in this picture, but it's a slightly metallic bronze colour.

After the paint has dried, I might add another coat. Then I'll put them back together and some gears and other small details.

In the end, I think I ended up with more paint on my hand, than I did on the goggles.  My middle and pointer fingers on my left hand are both completely covered in paint and my ring finger and thumb got it pretty good as well.

That's all I've got at this point, but when I have more done, I'll update. :)
