Tiny writers and super glue! Perhaps I need more sleep.

I hate it when the tiny little writer that lives in the back of my head wakes up in the middle of the night and yells at me to put these words on paper, quickly before I lose them.  I wouldn't mind so much, if this tiny little writer would actually complete something once in a while.  He's really good at starts, but not so good at middles and ends.  Though this here, it feels more like a middle.  Maybe towards the end.  Maybe that will make coming up with a beginning more easy? Likely not.  I good at making a start, even if that start is actually the end, but I have no follow through.

On an entirely different subject, I bought super glue.  I really want to get these goggles finished. I will get right on that.  After sleep. Good Night! =D

Goggles! part 2

I've got them put back together now.

This picture is really blurry, but some of these tiny gears will end up attached to the goggles.

First, however, I must obtain more of this nifty substance, as I discovered today that this bottle is quite empty.
I also need to do something about this tiny little problem, which did not occur until after I had them put back together.  It's not big, but it feels huge.  I'll have to attempt to find a small bottle of a similarly coloured paint to cover it up.

I haven't done much to them so far, but I've been meaning to do this for a while, so I'm pretty excited that I've finally gotten started.  Now I just need to find a way to make them different than the ones that I did for my friend.  :)

Look! A story!

Well, a bit of one at least. I started this last night.  I wasn't planning on it going for long but it ended up changing directions and now there is no end in sight. Perhaps I'll actually finish this one.  Not likely, but it is summer so I don't have much else to work on, and it is already longer than anything else I've written.  It would be cool if I could complete something.  Anyway, here's a bit of what I've got so far.
---

It took him longer than it should have to realize that the strange grumbling sound was coming from his own stomach. It was nearly three PM and he had yet to eat, but he couldn't seem to pry himself from the soft grass and the warm sun. It was a beautiful day and he wanted nothing but to let the soft breeze carry him away with the clouds. He lay there watching the images drift across the sky high above him. A squirrel running from a dinosaur, a school of fish swimming through the endless blue sea, an airship that he could only assume was carrying a crew of intrepid sky pirates. He would have gladly joined them on their adventures, had they been made of something more stable than cloud.

Stability. . .

He could no longer ignore the complaints of his stomach. It was threatening to turn itself inside out if not fed soon so he finally forced himself to go in search of something at least pretending to be edible. He was disappointed however to discover that both the fridge and the freezer were barren. He opened the pantry, hoping for something, anything, but was greeted by an overwhelming emptiness. Well then, now what? He thought. He stood in the kitchen staring at the floor, wondering where he might obtain food, or perhaps the money to purchase food. He thrust his hands into his pockets, hoping that perhaps some coins had magically appeared but there was nothing. He dug in the sofa cushions and searched every corner of the run down apartment but found nothing save a few pennies and what may have at one time been a peanut butter sandwich. He was quite hungry, and strongly considered it, but decided that it's place was in the trash bin, not his stomach.

Goggles!

I've decided to use this blog to show off some of the steampunk-ish things that I'm working on.  Being short on money, I can't do much, and nothing that I do is anything special, but it's something.

A few months ago I modded some goggles for a friend, and I've decided to make some for myself too.  They are simple plastic welding goggles, and I quite like them the way they come, but I thought it would be cool to dress them up a bit.

This is what I started with.  They are nothing special, but they are pretty nifty. I obtained them from this site. They are really inexpensive compared to other goggles and because of their simple design and the fact that they can be taken apart, they are fairly easy to mod.

I used Krylon Fusion for plastic Hammered Finish paint. I was lazy and didn't exactly follow the instructions on the can, but it seems to work okay anyway.

And this is what I've got so far.  The colour doesn't really show very well in this picture, but it's a slightly metallic bronze colour.

After the paint has dried, I might add another coat. Then I'll put them back together and some gears and other small details.

In the end, I think I ended up with more paint on my hand, than I did on the goggles.  My middle and pointer fingers on my left hand are both completely covered in paint and my ring finger and thumb got it pretty good as well.

That's all I've got at this point, but when I have more done, I'll update. :)
